Abstract

Milkfish farming is one of the aquaculture activities widely developed in Bone Regency, South Sulawesi. However, the limited availability of subsidized fertilizers and farmers’ dependence on commercial fertilizers can pose challenges in meeting fertilizer requirements for pond management. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of fish farmers in producing organic liquid fertilizer independently to support more effective and environmentally friendly milkfish farming. The activity was conducted in 2025 at Pokdakan Lawello, Pallette Village, East Tanete Riattang District, Bone Regency. The implementation methods included counseling, training, hands-on practice in producing organic liquid fertilizer, and monitoring of the fermentation process. The activity involved 16 aquaculture farmers cultivating milkfish and white shrimp. The results showed that participants were able to understand the benefits of organic liquid fertilizer and independently practice the production process using locally available materials. Monitoring results indicated that the fermentation process ran well, as shown by changes in color and the characteristic fermentation odor produced. This activity contributed to improving the knowledge, skills, and self-reliance of fish farmers in applying organic liquid fertilizer production technology to support more cost-effective and sustainable aquaculture.
