From Darkness to Self-Reliance: A Community-Driven Model for Sustainable Public Lighting in Soropia Village

This initiative addressed the critical deficit in public street lighting in Soropia Village, which hindered safety, mobility, and economic activity after dusk. Moving beyond mere infrastructure provision, the project's core objective was to establish a sustainable, community-owned model for public lighting through comprehensive technical capacity building and institutional development. Employing a participatory rural appraisal (PRA) framework, the project engaged 35 local participants in a multi-phase process over June 2025. This included collaborative identification of problem areas, co-design of technical solutions using locally-sourced and recycled materials, and an intensive, hands-on workshop. The technical design specifically utilized recycled metal pipes fabricated by participants, reinforced concrete foundations (40cm x 40cm x 60cm), and a safe electrical system with LED technology, proper grounding, and overcurrent protection connected to the existing grid. The project yielded three primary outcomes: 1) The successful installation of multiple functional, community-fabricated street lights at strategic locations; 2) A measurable enhancement of technical skills among participants, enabling independent maintenance and replication; and 3) The emergence of a formalized community task force committed to the project's longevity. Pre- and post-workshop assessments showed a 75% increase in technical self-efficacy scores among participants. The Soropia model demonstrates that integrating technical education with community-led implementation and early institutionalization fosters profound and sustainable empowerment. The transformation of participants from passive beneficiaries to active managers of their infrastructure is the key success metric. For scalability, we recommend integrating a micro-enterprise component to ensure financial sustainability for ongoing maintenance and expansion, thereby creating a replicable blueprint for rural infrastructural development.

Socialization of Forage Type Introduction and Silage Production for Livestock Farmers Morome Village, South Konawe Regency

The aim of this community service is to improve the knowledge and skills of farmers in Morome Village, South Konawe Regency, regarding the introduction of high-quality forage types and silage production techniques. The method used involved socialization and training with a practical approach on silage production from local forages and agricultural waste. The results showed that farmers successfully identified more nutritious forages, such as elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum) and legumes, and were able to process these materials into silage that can be stored for an extended period. However, some challenges, such as limited facilities and a lack of understanding in managing silage quality, were still faced by some farmers. Nevertheless, the overall activity had a positive impact on improving livestock feed security and farm productivity. In conclusion, silage production training can be an effective solution to overcome the feed shortage during the dry season.

Empowering the Lembah Subur Morome Farmer–Livestock Group through Forage Planting Training in Konda District, South Konawe Regency

The community service program aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of farmer-livestock groups in managing livestock feed. Its main objective is to improve the capacity of farmers in forage production to ensure a consistent supply of livestock feed, particularly during the dry season. The training focused on the selection, cultivation, and maintenance of forage species such as Pennisetum purpureum (elephant grass). Post-training evaluations showed a significant improvement in participants' knowledge and skills, particularly in understanding forage planting techniques. Additionally, the program successfully increased the availability of livestock feed, reduced dependence on external feed sources, and stabilized livestock productivity. The results of this community service align with the theory of empowerment through skill-based agricultural training and sustainable farming practices, as well as findings from previous studies on the impact of forage planting on livestock production. This program concludes. This program concludes that training and technical assistance for farmers are essential in ensuring food security and improving economic independence.

Application of Livestock Waste-Based Biogas Technology for Cattle Farming in Kondoano Village, Mowila District, South Konawe Regency

The community service program by the KKN Tematik Team of Universitas Halu Oleo was carried out in Kondoano Village, Mowila District, South Konawe Regency. The aim of this activity was to enhance the knowledge and skills of farmers in utilizing Bali cattle waste through the application of biogas technology as a waste processing solution and alternative energy source. The implementation method began with a survey of the area to identify issues and potential, followed by technical guidance on biogas processing and activity evaluation. As a result, farmers gained knowledge and practical skills in converting livestock manure into biogas, which reduces environmental pollution and supports household energy needs. This activity involved the KKN Tematik team from the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Universitas Halu Oleo, KKN students, and local farmers. This program successfully empowered the community to manage livestock waste independently into valuable and sustainable resources.

Institutional Strengthening of Farmer Groups through Resource Efficiency and Organizational Management in Konda District, South Konawe Regency

This community service aims to improve the efficiency of resource management and organizational management within the Lembah Subur Morome Farmers Group in Konda District, Konawe Selatan Regency. The main issue faced by this farmers group is the lack of efficient resource management and poorly structured organization, which affects productivity and the welfare of its members. Using a participatory approach, training was provided to the group members on organizational management, resource management, and more effective marketing techniques. The results of the service showed improvements in managerial capacity, efficiency in managing natural and human resources, and the ability to market agricultural products. The farmer’s group is now more organized, with more transparent budget management and clearer task division. Additionally, marketing skills through social media have enabled the farmers to expand their market reach and increase income. This service is expected to contribute positively to agricultural development and the improvement of farmers' welfare in Konda District.
